Custodial Bank Safe Keeping Receipt (SKR)
A custodial bank safe keeping receipt (SKR) is a financial instrument issued by a bank or authorized safekeeping facility that confirms secure custody of valuable assets — such as gold, real estate titles, precious metals, bonds, art or other valuables — without transferring ownership. With a custodial bank safe keeping receipt (SKR), the issuer acts as a legal custodian, safeguarding the asset in a secure location, while the asset owner keeps control. Importantly, an SKR can be used as collateral or an alternative financing tool much like a bond, letter of credit (LC), or bank guarantee (BG) — offering investors or companies a way to access liquidity without liquidating the underlying asset.
